Introduction

Introduction

Even a subtle 1mm refinement has the power to reshape the depth of your eyes and elevate your entire facial aesthetic. For patients who feel their eye size or shape is still less than ideal after double eyelid surgery, canthoplasty offers a precise solution by modifying the inner, outer, and lower corners of the eyes to create a more balanced and naturally open appearance. As canthoplasty is not suitable for every eye type, a thorough consultation with a specialist is essential to ensure safe and optimal results.

Procedure Overview

Procedure Overview

Epicanthoplasty involves a precise incision at the inner corner of the eye to release or reshape the epicanthal fold, opening the medial eye area for a wider, more defined, and harmonious appearance. Lateral canthoplasty gently repositions the outer corner through a horizontal incision, subtly extending eye width and correcting short or upward-angled outer corners while preserving natural eyelid support.

"

Lower canthoplasty (including Hotz) uses a conjunctival incision beneath the pupil for careful adjustment of the lower eyelid and canthal angle, achieving a softer, more open eye with balanced vertical dimension. All incisions are closed within natural eyelid folds and conjunctiva to keep scars discreet while maintaining eyelid stability and creating a refreshed, harmonious eye shape tailored to each patient. With years of research and clinical experience, Dr. Kim has perfected a surgical technique using discreet, precisely placed incisions tailored to each corner of the eye. Through a thorough consultation and careful assessment, this method delivers smooth, virtually scar-free results, achieving a natural, refreshed appearance while allowing for a quick return to your daily routine.

Benefits

Benefits

Canthoplasty delivers comprehensive eye rejuvenation by refining the inner, outer, and lower eye corners to create a more open, balanced, and youthful gaze. Through precisely placed, discreet incisions and meticulous repositioning of the canthal structures, the procedure enhances eye width, optimizes eye angles, and restores harmonious proportions while maintaining natural eyelid support.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal Candidates

Canthoplasty is ideal for individuals who have double eyelids yet feel their eyes appear small, obstructed, or lacking definition due to the shape or position of the eye corners. It is well suited for those who are self-conscious about wide-set eyes, raised or upturned outer corners that create an unintentionally stern or angry expression, or eyes that appear short in width. Patients seeking larger, more open, and refreshing eye shapes, especially those desiring a more noticeable transformation in combination with double eyelid surgery may benefit from canthoplasty, as it allows comprehensive refinement of the inner, outer, and lower eye corners to achieve a balanced, harmonious, and naturally expressive appearance.

Recovery

Recovery

A few hours after your procedure, you will be discharged from the clinic and can return to your accommodation accompanied by a friend or family member. As Dr. Kim performs the surgery under sedation rather than general anesthesia, most patients feel comfortable afterward. You will be prescribed appropriate pain relief, NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), antibiotics, and anti-nausea medication. We recommend keeping your head elevated for the first 48 hours of rest, even while sleeping, to promote optimal healing. For exercise and sports, Dr. Kim advises avoiding strenuous activity for the first two weeks, with gym workouts and sports postponed for an additional two weeks, as excessive movement may interfere with healing and increase the risk of bleeding.

Also, our clinic also offers one of the best adjuvant therapies including healing lasers, LDM, IV therapy, and HBOT for optimal results and recovery. Post-op skincare regimens are essential to maintain outcomes, and Dr. Kim provides patient-specific advice as standard, included in the procedure price.

Expected Timeline Days 1-2: Rest with head elevated at about 15 degrees, cold compresses for swelling control. Mild discomfort managed with medication. Days 3-7: Swelling peaks then subsides. Light activities (walking, desk work) resume. Stitches removed on day 7. Weeks 2: Most swelling gone. Return to daily/social activities, light exercise allowed. After 6 weeks: Full recovery. Final results visible, optimal outcomes sustained. Cold compresses, head elevation, avoiding heavy exertion and smoking are essential.
