Introduction

Introduction

The eyes are a defining focal point of the face and often the first area to reflect the changes of aging. When expertly performed, upper blepharoplasty results in a brighter, more open-eyed appearance with reduced hooding and improved vision if obstructed, creating a refreshed and youthful look with no visible signs of surgical treatment.

Procedure Overview

Procedure Overview

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that can be performed to improve the appearance of the eyelids. Upper eyelid rejuvenation typically involves removing excess skin that drapes over the eyelid, obscuring the natural, youthful crease. Surgeons precisely measure and mark the skin to be excised preoperatively, and this approach also applies to eyelid surgery for hooded eyes. In most cases, only surplus skin is removed, with minimal underlying muscle or fat addressed if required. The incisions are closed with fine sutures, leaving a nearly invisible scar concealed within the eyelid crease. Careful surgical judgment is applied to protect soft tissue volume and prevent an overly hollow or sunken look.

Benefits

Benefits

Beyond aesthetic improvement, upper blepharoplasty can expand the line of sight when drooping upper eyelid skin obstructs vision and reduce irritation caused by excess folds. Many patients also find that eye makeup application becomes easier and more comfortable. Overall, the procedure rejuvenates the upper eye area in a natural, balanced manner, contributing to both improved appearance and everyday comfort.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal Candidates

Upper blepharoplasty is well suited for individuals who are bothered by excess or drooping skin of the upper eyelids that creates a tired, heavy, or aged appearance. Ideal candidates often wish to restore a more open, refreshed eye contour, improve eyelid definition, or address functional concerns such as visual obstruction or irritation caused by redundant skin. Candidates should be in good overall health, and have stable medical conditions as these factors support safe surgery and optimal, natural-looking results. Dr. Kim will perform a comprehensive evaluation of the eyelid anatomy, skin quality, and overall facial balance, and will discuss personalized goals and expected outcomes to ensure you can make a fully informed decision before proceeding.

Recovery

Recovery

A few hours after your procedure, you will be discharged from the clinic and can return to your accommodation accompanied by a friend or family member. As Dr. Kim performs the surgery under sedation rather than general anesthesia, most patients feel comfortable afterward. You will be prescribed appropriate pain relief, NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), antibiotics, and anti-nausea medication.

We recommend keeping your head elevated for the first 48 hours of rest, even while sleeping, to promote optimal healing. For exercise and sports, Dr. Kim advises avoiding strenuous activity for the first two weeks, with gym workouts and sports postponed for an additional two weeks, as excessive movement may interfere with healing and increase the risk of bleeding.

Also, our clinic also offers one of the best adjuvant therapies including healing lasers, LDM, IV therapy, and HBOT for optimal results and recovery. Post-op skincare regimens are essential to maintain outcomes, and Dr. Kim provides patient-specific advice as standard, included in the procedure price. Expected Timeline Days 1-2: Rest with head elevated at about 15 degrees, cold compresses for swelling control. Mild discomfort managed with medication. Days 3-7: Swelling peaks then subsides. Light activities (walking, desk work) resume. Stitches removed on day 7.
